Potenziale und Grenzen der Liste

Wow, das Prager Center for Theoretical Study sendet über H-SOZ-U-KULT einen Call for Papers zu einem faszinierenden Workshop aus:

Call for Papers: The Potential and Limitations of a List

International Transdisciplinary Workshop at the Center for Theoretical Study, Prague, Czech Republic (www.cts.cuni.cz)

Time: November 8-9, 2007

Lists, one of the most archaic literary genres, stand behind many of our complex mental or rhetorical structures and they often influence the way we conceptualize the world (even if we are unaware of it). They seem plain but may conceal a complicated inner logic. They are agrammatical but may tell a story. Their only features – selection, order, and layout – may be enough to give them enormous power: by including they exclude, by ordering they create a hierarchy, by taking on particular physical aspects they place themselves into a specific context.
The aim of the workshop is to create an interdisciplinary forum in which the potential and limitations of various types of lists would be discussed based on individual particular case studies. Thus, 20-30-minute papers from any discipline (including philology, sociology, history, cognitive science, philosophy, biology, mathematics, or physics) are welcome.
