Vortrag zu sozialistischen Truckern
Michael Zinganel und Michael Hieslmair organisieren in Wien die Vortragsreihe Mapping Mobilities, von der ich folgenden Beitrag hervorheben möchte:
Emiliya Karaboeva
The socialist international truck drivers and the social implications of their mobility lifestyle
Zeit: 23. Oktober 2012, 19 Uhr
Ort: Kunsthalle Exnergasse, WUK Währinger Straße 59, 1090 Wien
The project deals with the group of the socialist international truck drivers in the framework of the Cold War regime of separation. The truck drivers’ privileged access to cross border travelling is analyzed in the framework of the motility theoretical concept, as an important material, social and symbolical resource. The truckers’ specific lifestyle enabled them to profit in a number of ways: enhanced their social status (the socialist truckers developed a special in-between status, combining a humble social position with high-rank privileges) and changed their identity, world-view, and their families’ lifestyle.
Emiliya Karaboeva, Faculty of Cultural Studies at Sofia University, Historian currently finishing her second PhD at Eindhoven and Plovdiv Universities
Lecture in English language

Dazu ein DDR-Witz
"Och... Hof-Halle, Halle-Hof." Auch nicht schlecht. Und was fährst du?" "Och... Gabelstapler."
